RPL Information
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) and Direct Credit Transfer (DCT) GuidelinesCertificate IV in Pilates Instruction (91121NSW), along with the Diploma of Professional Pilates Practice (91120NSW) are the first and only competency based professional Pilates qualifications to be government recognised and VETAB accredited in Australia. Developed by Pilates International Pty Ltd, a registered training organisation, these programs are unlike any other Pilates programs currently offered to health and fitness professionals today and are a benchmark in setting the highest industry standard. These are the only Pilates qualifications aligned with the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) and national fitness and health industry standards. The Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction (91121NSW) is entry into the Pilates industry and is designed to reflect the role of Pilates Instructors who operate in a professional and specialised studio environment, under minimal supervision and work with low risk (apparently healthy) client groups.Table of Contents

What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Current Competency (RCC)?

The RPL process recognises a person's prior skills and knowledge through formal training, informal learning, work experience and/or life experience. Based on the evidence presented, the person may be given either full exemption or partial exemption from the competencies and tutorial requirements. Current Competency is part of the RPL process, and is where the person must demonstrate currency of the competency in question within the previous 2-3 year period. To determine the suitability for the RPL/RCC assessment process, candidates must initially self-assess themselves against the competencies and performance criteria for the content areas that RPL is sought (this also includes a repertoire listing as relevant to the unit). For RPL to be awarded, all performance criteria within the units must be met. A self-assessment form will be issued to the candidate on application for RPL. All unit pre-requisites must be met. NB: RPL varies with each individual and is assessed on a case-by-case basis only. The candidate will then forward the completed self-assessment, and attach relevant copies of supporting documents to Kath Banks, Course Administrator, for initial evaluation. After this point, if there is sufficient evidence, no further assessment will be necessary. If however, further assessment is required, it may take on any practical form that is consistent with the performance criteria for the competencies. This will be negotiated with the candidate and may consist of an interview, written assignment, set assessment tasks, workplace assessment or any other method. The RPL process is conducted by the Course Administrator in conjunction with the Director, Katrina Edwards, both of whom are qualified assessors and hold the Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training qualification. :: Return to top ::

What is Direct Credit Transfer?

Direct Credit transfer is where a candidate can show evidence of a government recognised qualification or statement of attainment, where the code/s exactly matches the unit/s within the Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction (91121NSW) . For example an applicant who has already completed the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) will have a direct credit transfer for the 'Provide training through instruction and demonstration of work skills' (TAADEL301A) component of this course. Applicants who can demonstrate direct credit transfer will only be required to provide a certified copy of the Academic Transcript, which shows a direct match of the unit of competency for which credit is sought. :: Return to top ::

Recognition of other AQTF Qualifications

As a registered Training Organisation, NPT recognises any competencies required in this course that have been issued by another registered provider. :: Return to top ::

Registered Pilates Industry Professionals

Industry professionals, who are registered with the Pilates Alliance Australasia, may apply for exemption on the repertoire and programming units through RPL. This will take into account past and current industry experience, and knowledge and skills of the National Pilates Training approach to repertoire and programming. It is most likely that applicants in this category will be exempt from the work experience and Training Studio hours components and but may still have to attend the designated training and practical assessment or in some cases undertake supervised Pilates sessions at the National Pilates Centre to demonstrate competence. It is important to realise that people in this category will be building on their current knowledge and upgrading to meet competency requirements of the selected unit/s and that RPL is on a case-by-case basis only. It should be clearly understood that all the pilates repertoire and programming in the Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction (91121NSW), is that of the National Pilates Training and Pilates International approach. In accordance with the principles of competency based training, all candidates must successfully demonstrate competence in the core and specialised Pilates units of competency in order to be granted the qualification/s. :: Return to top ::
